I cannot find the option to use my usb mic to record with, instead of the mic on the camera.

All the camcorders that I know of connect to an external mic using a 1/8″ (3.5mm) or XLR audio connector. The USB port on the camcorder is not connected to the audio system of the camcorder.
The USB port is for transferring stills from the memory card only – occassionally, the camcorder can use USB streaming – but the USB port is never used for audio-in.
The reason you cannot find the option is because it is not there. What you want to do is not possible.

I just realized you might be trying to stream camcorder video over firewire to the computer, but use the computer’s USB port for the audio… No – I don’t think that is possible… BUT, you did not tell us which applications you are trying to use, which computer or where the video is going, so we have no way to troubleshoot.
