how do blood banks test for hiv
when we donate blood to blood bank what tests are performed over it before giving to another person?
do they test for HIV AND HEPATITIS B??
i heard that hiv test is very expensive. so, in my part of the world when hundreds of people donate blood on special occasions then how costly it would be to perform tests on all the blood collected and then preserve it !!
or do they have some different procedure for it.
plz explain me .
Donated blood is tested by many methods, but the core tests recommended by the World Health Organization are these four:
* Hepatitis B Surface Antigen
* Antibody to Hepatitis C
* Antibody to HIV, usually subtypes 1 and 2
* Serologic test for Syphilis
