The Most Anticipated Shows On Satellite Tv In 2010
With a new year comes many new seasons of television shows, from the returns of old favorites to highly-anticipated new series that might just make their way into the annals of pop culture. Whether you’re interested in the outcome of a highly popular franchise series or are hoping to fall in love with a new series altogether, here are the top ten most anticipated shows that are on their way to satellite tv for either yet another season or the first time ever.
10. Bored to Death. In case there isn’t a Wes Anderson film on any of your numerous satellite tv channels, this new series from HBO will do in a pinch. Starting Jason Schwartzman playing writer Jonathan Ames, the show managed to net a fair share of fans and the buzz has been steadily growing.
09. 24. With each season of “24” devoted to a single day in the life of long-suffering Jack Bauer, this series has managed to endure a lot longer than just its 15 minutes of fame. With more plot twists than another highly awaited return “Lost,” it’s a wonder that half of viewers can keep up with what’s actually happening, but watching all of those fight sequences and explosions on one’s HD tv must apparently be enough to keep people tuning in after all these years.
08. Lost. If you weren’t already watching, it’s going to be pretty difficult to catch up to this mega-huge series following airplane passengers who were stranded on an island together after a crash. For fans, though, a new season of “Lost” is a surprisingly huge event.
07. Parenthood. It might seem a little late to make a television series based on Ron Howard’s darkly funny film from the 1980s, but television executives might just be making a smart choice with their attempt at a “Parenthood” series.
06. America’s Next Top Model. As far as reality television goes, “ANTM” is the best of both worlds: a program that actually predates the moment when reality television went down the tubes, but with all of the crazy drama expected from anything involving Tyra Banks.
05. Diary of a Call Girl. Because now that “Sex and the City” has been gone for awhile, it’s time for satellite tv to get a woman that’s just as feisty and unlucky in love in a big city, if not more so. Definitely the best on Showtime right now.
04. Nurse Jackie. Leave it up to Showtime to find a way to put a new, fresh twist on tired old medical shows. “Nurse Jackie” returns for another season of showing views that Showtime can be just as clever as HBO.
03. Glee. One of the surprise hits on FOX, this series has won the hearts of millions with its song and dance numbers and Jane Lynch’s acerbic wit. One of the sleeper hits to hit satellite tv recently, the new season of “Glee” will surely make waves with critics and fans alike.
02. Boardwalk Empire. The only reason that this perfect storm of actors, producers, and directors isn’t number one is that with the most expensive pilot in the history of television, it’s possible that “Boardwalk Empire” is going to be a little bit of a disappointment. But with the writer of “The Sopranos” and the director of “Raging Bull” and “Goodfellas,” chances are, this show is going to be gigantic.
01. True Blood. While the whole vampire craze might find itself on the way out, the Southern Gothic charms of vampires and non-vampires alike on Alan Ball’s “True Blood” make the show–entering its third season–likely to outlast the current trends. Ball is the man responsible for the film “American Beauty” and the hugely popular HBO series “Six Feet Under,” and he manages to bring his dark wit and uncanny ability to depict the south to “True Blood.” With millions of viewers eagerly waiting for the next season to start, “True Blood” is definitely one of the most anticipated shows returning in 2010.
