You are disqualified if you have ever had male to male sex, if you ever lived in europe for longer than six months and have a hisotry of drug use.
They are screening for Hepatitis A, B, C and HIV, and of course any bacterial blood diseases. Blood is usually stored up to three months.
Blood donors are needed to meet the needs for hospitalized patients that require a blood transfusion.
Platelets will make your blood clot and close wounds. If you have a hemophuliac, who is a person who is lacking those factors, they will need those platelets.
