Should Paternity Tests Be Mandatory?
The American Association of blood banks released a study that found 30% of men who tested the paternity children they believed to be theirs’ found they were not the biological fathers of those children. Most of these men had paid thousands in child support for children that were not even theirs’. So should paternity tests be mandatory? Why? Why not? Before anyone argues that the woman may have genuinely believed the man was the father (so she is of no fault), keep in mind that she knew that she slept with more than one man around the time she got pregnant so she knew there was a chance that the guy she pinned it on may not have been the father and she should have been up front about that. Also what punishment if any should the woman receive?
I do not think paternity tests should be mandatory for everyone, but I think they should be mandatory to claim child support. You have to prove any other claim in court beyond a reasonable doubt, and if the woman has been faithful she has nothing to fear.
As for women that have been taking the support from the wrong man, I think that she should have to pay that money back to the man she essentially stole it from with interest. If he has done jail time as a result, she should face criminal charges for false report.
