add special effects to windows movie maker

If you’ve spent any time at all at the YouTube website, you would have seen quite a variety of videos – themed wedding first dances (Dirty Dancing!), rants (Leave Britney Alone!) and some amazing Christmas lights on houses (set to music). If you have something to show or say to the world, YouTube is THE place to do it.

Even if you don’t have a video camera, there is a way to share your special moments with the world through this medium. If you have a computer with a Windows XP system or newer, you already have the software needed, it would have been loaded with the system.

Windows Movie Maker gives you the ability to turn your still photographs into a movie, and it is very simple to do. If you have old hard copy photographs, you can scan them for use as well. With Movie Maker each of the frames in your movie is actually one of your photos. By adjusting the timing that each frame stays on the screen, you can vary the tempo of the movie. This free software allows you to add text to frames as well, and creating special effects is child’s play.

But if you really want to add some impressive features to your movie, it is a good idea to purchase some extra inexpensive software to enhance your work. Video Showcase Creator is a nice package that allows you to use some pre built themes, e.g. birthday, babies, Christmas. As a bonus there are 30 royalty-free music clips to add to your movie.

Most importantly though, this program comes with a really neat tutorial that explains how to apply its features. And guess what? It spells out clearly how to upload your movie to YouTube.

Making your movie from photos has countless possibilities. What a great way to share your wedding or new baby news with friends around the world? A short movie featuring your best shots will be watched over and over again – much better than a dusty photo album or a choked inbox.

If you have a colleague about to retire, or a child approaching a milestone, making your own moving with photographic images from years ago, will make it very special indeed.

So have a look on your Start Menu and see if Movie Maker is there. Have a play with it and when you are ready to put a project together and load it onto YouTube – enlist some extra help and you’ll soon be congratulating yourself on learning such a useful new skill.
